Cayman Hedge Fund Expands in Japan

Cayman-based hedge fund Rainmaker Partners is to begin providing investment management services focusing on bottom-up, company-visit driven investment. The company will target absolute return independent of market conditions by concentrating on large-cap stocks and highly liquid markets. "This is the best market for stock pickers I have seen in over 15 years of investing in Japan, particularly for people on the ground here that are focused on large-cap stocks,” said Virgil Adams who leads the investment management team of six in Tokyo. Mr Adams previously helped to start up Hachibushu Capital where he was responsible for fundamental long/short in a multi-strategy team. Prior to starting Hachibushu, Mr Adams helped manage hedge funds at Gartmore Japan, and worked for six years as an analyst and fund manager at Fidelity Japan.
